Design

Design and building can feel both exciting & daunting. It’s one of the most important investments of your life, with much time, effort & money – let’s get it right. Bespoke collaborative design that is tailored specifically for you will transform your life.

  • Brief formulation, with consideration to your budget, needs & wants.
  • Site visit, understanding microclimate, orientation, sunlight, breezes, neighbours, privacy, view aspects, as well as council / regulations.
  • Matt & Linda work together on your project – so uniquely, you get two architects! We will find the best design solutions for your project.
  • You are included throughout – it is extremely valuable to have collaborative, open communication. You shall have access to both or either of us throughout the entire process.
  • Extensive construction experience means we design with structural integrity, thus our buildings are both practical & beautiful, crafted, yet simple & stunning. They’re enjoyable for builders – the difference is we know how to build, & know how to work constructively with the builder to deliver.
  • We are specialists at achieving beautiful, unique buildings navigating any council, hazard or regulation. Some of our most successful projects were with hazards (bushfire, flood, heritage, landslip, etc). The design shall consider all relevant parameters.
  • We travel to you. We’ve completed projects all along the east coast, from the far south coast to Sydney Northern Beaches to Byron Bay, and even across the west coast.

Approvals & Documentation

Once happy with the design, we produce drawings & documents to gain building approval (council, certifier, DA CDC CC). Each site has different requirements & different oportunities. We will advise you. We can coordinate all consultants & organise the entire process.

Approvals aside, we provide Construction Documentation;

  • We integrate architecture & structure, working with the engineer to finesse the building. We closely manage all consultants.

  • Environmental design is incorporated holistically. Passive design principles for a well designed, climate responsive building. Healthy homes are important for comfort, respect and responsibility to environment.
  • Maximising your connection to the site & landscape – indoor / outdoor spaces may seamlessly transist, and beautiful view aspects can be cleverly captured.
  • Interior design is integrated & unified for a coherent, considered piece of architecture. We design all interior elements from cabinetry, finishes, colours, to furnishings. We have exceptional attention to detail.
  • Materials, finishes & fittings are selected with you & we will source best value for you. We’ve 30 year strong relationships with local builders & suppliers.
  • Efficient designs. We easily navigate codes & regulations, are well respected by councils, and have remarkable construction & product knowledge. This provides an expertise far beyond the capabilities of regular designers.

Administration

This stage can make or break the building. Depending on how the drawings & documents are communicated, interpreted & executed the resulting construction can create a very different outcome. We want the best for your project, and give our utmost to achieve it for you.

  • We suggest builders to you based on our 30 years of industry contacts & experience. We provide drawings, specifications & documents to tender your project so that builders may provide you with accurate prices.
  • We carefully compare & analyse quotes, to match the builder for your project, budget, timing & personality.
  • Tendering & Administration are a delicate art in itself. Our depth of construction knowledge & unique ability to communicate well with both client & builder yields beautiful, successful projects. Our clients & builders genuinely enjoy the process, with our personal, creative & professional skills guiding the process.
  • We organise the Building Contract, negotiating its terms, inclusions & exclusions. We administer the project on your behalf: assess the builder’s work, assess & certify the contract paperwork (ie. payment claims, variations, time, program, meeting notes, etc).
  • Site meetings will be architect, builder & yourself. We ensure your design intent, inclusions & quality is achieved. There’ll be countless queries from builder & tradesmen – we provide effective & efficient communication, sketches, drawings as needed. On a building site drawing is a language in itself.
  • We’re the main point of contact to all, consultants, certifier / council, to you and to the builder / trades.
  • Administration is quite a major undertaking, and notably the most important stage, and so we pour our heart & soul into it. This is where the realisation of your vision takes place!
